Flagship noise-cancelling earbuds have settled into a narrow price band of roughly $250 to $330, so the differences that matter are battery life with ANC switched on, phone compatibility and how long the things will last. GSMArena’s review of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 landed this week, which makes it a good moment to line up the five pairs that deserve a shortlist.
All prices below are list prices as of 2 November 2026, in US dollars unless stated. Only Sennheiser published a euro price in the sources I could verify, and I haven’t converted anything.
The five pairs at a glance
The table uses manufacturer battery ratings with ANC on wherever one exists. That’s the figure you’ll actually live with on a commute.
| Model | List price (USD) | ANC on, per bud (h) | Total with case (h) | Standout |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 | 299.95 (€299.90) | 6 | 40 (ANC off) | User-replaceable batteries |
| Sony WF-1000XM6 | 329.99 | 8 | 24 | LDAC, 8.8/10 ANC lab score |
| Apple AirPods Pro 3 | 249 | 8 | 24 | Heart-rate sensing, hearing features |
| Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) | 299 | 6 | 24 | Wireless charging case, frequent discounts |

Two pairs reach 8 hours with ANC on: the Sony WF-1000XM6 and the AirPods Pro 3. The Sennheiser, Bose and Samsung pairs are rated at 6.
Read the battery numbers carefully
Sennheiser’s headline is 12 hours per charge and 40 hours with the case, according to TechRepublic’s launch coverage. Both figures assume ANC is off. SoundGuys’ spec page lists 6 hours with ANC on, and a German test on Basic-Tutorials landed on just over 6 hours with noise cancelling running constantly.
That ANC-on figure is a step back from the old model. The same test measured about 7.5 hours for the Momentum True Wireless 4 under the same conditions.
Apple’s own page rates the AirPods Pro 3 at up to 8 hours with ANC, and up to 10 hours in Transparency with the Hearing Aid feature on. The case total fell, though: What Hi-Fi noted that it’s now 24 hours, down from 30 on the AirPods Pro 2. The Sony matches Apple at 8 hours and 24 hours total, per What Hi-Fi’s Sony review.
Samsung is the odd one out. The Shortcut points out that the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro have 61mAh cells per bud against 56mAh in the AirPods Pro 3, yet last less time. Its reading is that the power-hungry planar drivers eat the difference.
Our calculation: dividing ANC-on hours by list price gives the AirPods Pro 3 8 ÷ 249 × 100 = 3.2 hours per $100. The Sony manages 8 ÷ 329.99 × 100 = 2.4, the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro 6 ÷ 249.99 × 100 = 2.4, and the Sennheiser 6 ÷ 299.95 × 100 = 2.0. The Bose at its $299 list price also lands at 2.0.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5: the one you can repair
The Momentum True Wireless 5 began shipping on 3 September 2026 at US$299.95, €299.90 or £249.99, the same as its predecessor. Batteries in both the buds and the case can be swapped at home with a Phillips PH000 screwdriver, and a replacement tool ships in the box. For earbuds, whose built-in cells normally decide when the product dies, that’s a real change.
The rest of the spec sheet is current: Bluetooth 6.0, aptX Lossless, and 24-bit/96kHz playback, according to SoundGuys’ launch report. The buds are rated IP54, which doesn’t cover the case.
Reviews agree on the sound and split on the rest. GSMArena found the audio quality really good, the noise cancelling good and the microphones mixed. Engadget gave it 8.4/10 and called out subpar call quality and lacklustre ANC; RTINGS rates noise isolation as fantastic. If calls on a busy street matter to you, that disagreement is worth noting.
Sony WF-1000XM6: the strongest lab ANC score of the group
Sony released the WF-1000XM6 on 12 February 2026 at $329.99, which is the highest list price here. SoundGuys scored its noise cancelling 8.8/10, beating 98% of the earbuds it has measured. The Sennheiser scored 8.5 and the Samsung 8.4 in the same lab; I didn’t find SoundGuys scores for the Apple or Bose pairs.
Lab scores and ears can disagree. TechRadar found the real-world ANC sub-par, while What Hi-Fi gave the pair an Awards 2026 win. Fit is the other variable: each bud weighs 6.2g and the case 47g, but What Hi-Fi calls the case bulky and says the eartip choice is limited.
For Android owners the Sony adds LDAC for high-resolution streaming, plus IPX4 splash resistance. Street prices drift below list: What Hi-Fi’s price widget showed $328 at Amazon and $273.99 at Walmart in late October.
AirPods Pro 3, Bose and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro
The AirPods Pro 3 went on sale 19 September 2025 at $249, unchanged from the Pro 2. Apple lists heart-rate sensing during workouts and a Hearing Test and Hearing Aid feature on the same page. Full functionality needs an iPhone running iOS 26 or later, according to Techpoint’s spec roundup.
The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) have a $299 list price, though Bose’s own store page showed $229 when I checked. They’re rated at 6 hours and 24 hours in total, the same as the first generation. Bose says the fit comes from nine combinations of tips and stability bands, and the second generation added a wireless charging case. TechRadar’s review headline went as far as calling the ANC the best in earbuds to date at launch in 2025.
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 4 Pro were announced on 25 February 2026 and cost $249.99 at Samsung’s US store. RTINGS notes the IP57 rating and calls the 6-hour battery mediocre. Android Police adds that there’s no Wear app for iOS and several features need Samsung devices; the Buds 4 Pro are a Galaxy phone accessory first.
Best for…
- iPhone owners: AirPods Pro 3 at $249. They have the longest ANC-on rating in the group, tied with the Sony, for the lowest list price.
- Anyone who keeps earbuds for years: Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 at €299.90 or $299.95. Replaceable cells outweigh the 6-hour ANC rating if you mostly listen in shorter bursts.
- Android listeners who want the best lab ANC: Sony WF-1000XM6 at $329.99, with LDAC. It’s the priciest pair, so wait for a discount if you can.
- Tight budget, still flagship: Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen), if the $229 store price holds. At that price the 6-hour rating costs about 2.6 hours per $100 spent (6 ÷ 229 × 100).
- Galaxy phone owners: Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro at $249.99, mainly for the IP57 rating and the Samsung-only features.
Buy now or wait
I found no credible rumour of a replacement for any of these five, so there’s no new model to hold out for. Timing is a discount question instead. Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026, and What Hi-Fi’s Sony review mentions that Technics earbuds dipped below their normal price during last year’s Black Friday sales.
Apple and Samsung have held their prices steady across generations, so deep cuts there are a hope rather than a pattern. The Sony and Bose pairs have the most room to fall, given the gap between their list and street prices.
What this means for you
Decide on your phone first. iPhone owners should look at the AirPods Pro 3, Galaxy owners at the Buds 4 Pro, and everyone else at the Sony, Bose or Sennheiser.
Then check the ANC-on battery figure, not the case total. If you commute for more than 6 hours at a stretch, only the Sony and Apple pairs are rated for it. If you keep earbuds for 3 or more years, the Sennheiser’s replaceable batteries address the most common way they fail.
Buy the Bose only at a discount, since $229 and $299 are very different propositions. If you can wait three weeks, check Sony and Bose prices on and after 27 November before paying list.
